چکیده

Introduction The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) was initially identified as a circulating humoral system with the effector peptide, angiotensin II (Ang II),generated by an enzymatic cascade. Angiotensinogen, which is synthesised in the liver,is cleaved by renin,a product of the juxtaglomerular cells of the kidney, to form angiotensin I (Ang I), which in turn is cleaved by angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) to form Ang II. ACE is membrane-bound and predominates on the endothelial cells of all vascular beds.Apart from the production of Ang II in plasma,Ang II, renin and ACE have all been described in tissues such as the brain, kidney, adrenal, vasculature, heart and ovaries. This suggests a separate and distinct RAS in these tissues and implies endocrine, paracrine and autocrine roles for Ang II. 1 A variety of other angiotensin peptides are also produced, although their activities have only recently received attention.

Bioactive Peptides from Muscle Sources: Meat and Fish

Bioactive peptides have been identified in a range of foods, including plant, milk and muscle, e.g., beef, chicken, pork and fish muscle proteins. Bioactive peptides from food proteins offer major potential for incorporation into functional foods and nutraceuticals. The aim of this paper is to present an outline of the bioactive peptides identified in the muscle protein of meat to date, with a ...

Transepithelial transport and stability in blood serum of angiotensin-I-converting enzyme inhibitory dipeptides.

The dipeptides Ala-Trp, Val-Phe, and Val-Tyr inhibit the angiotensin-I-converting enzyme. They are encrypted within the primary sequences of different food proteins, e.g. milk proteins. The angiotensin-I-converting enzyme inhibitory potency of these synthetic dipeptides was quantified using a spectrophotometric assay. The dipeptides showed no adverse effects on differentiated Caco-2 cells (mode...

Fermented milk derives bioactive peptides with antihypertensive effects

Functional foods present great promise for future developments in human nutrition. In the fermented dairy products, milk proteins serve as an important source of a range of bioactive peptides encrypted within the sequence of the native proteins and thus be released by proteolysis. From the bioactive peptides detected in dairy products, is inhibitors of angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE), whi...

Translational Nephrology Renin inhibition and atherosclerosis∗

Angiotensin II (Ang II) has long been considered the major bioactive effector molecule of the renin–angiotensin system and is recognized as a major contributor to hypercholesterolaemia-induced atherosclerosis [1,2]. LDLreceptor-deficient and apoE-deficient mice have been intensively investigated in this regard. Chronic Ang II infusions in such mice accelerate atherosclerosis and promote aneurys...
